Uber Eats is forced to make last-minute change to Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer Super Bowl ad after outrage over scene where allergic man eats peanut butter

Uber Eats was pressured to make a last-minute change to its Super Bowl commercial after complaints surfaced about a quick scene of a man with a peanut allergy eating peanut butter.

The buzzy commercial, starring Friends actors David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston, was released February 6.

The ad plays with the idea of forgetfulness. Aniston does not remember Schwimmer, whom she spent 10 years playing across from on the iconic sitcom.

In one scene, a man with a swollen face, eating peanut butter from a jar by the spoon says: 'There's peanuts in peanut butter?' Oh, it's the primary ingredient.'

Advocacy group Food Allergy Research & Education reached out to Uber Eats to express their concern, saying they were 'incredibly disappointed' by the brand's use of 'life-threatening food allergies as humor.'

'The suffering of 33M+ Americans with this condition is no joke. Life-threatening food allergy is a disease, not a diet. Enough is enough,' continued the statement, reported by Variety.

According to the outlet, Uber Eats has agreed to cut the roughly three-second scene, which occurs about 35 seconds into the 60-second commercial.

The company has not publicly confirmed its intent, but the CEO of the advocacy group said the food delivery service has 'made a change to the ad that will air to the Super Bowl's wide audience' that edits out 'the reference to the peanut allergy.'

The National Institutes of Health report that roughly 13 people die every year in the US due to peanut allergies.

The premise of the commercial begins with Aniston receiving a bag of different goods, including flowers and shampoo, from Uber Eats.

She is handed the branded bag by a production assistant, who tells the star she hadn't remembered that a person could get 'all this stuff on Uber Eats.'

Jennifer replies: 'Well you know what they say; in order to remember something you've got to forget something else. Make a little room.'

That line is followed by several situations in which an individual forgets an important piece of information, but remember to order Uber Eats.

Then Aniston is shown holding her Uber Eats bag when Schwimmer arrives on set.

He greets her nonchalantly and goes in for a hug, but his former castmate looks thrown off and rebuffs him.

She says: 'Um, have we met?'

The scene later cuts back to Aniston who is trying to figure out how she knows Schwimmer.

Aniston eventually walks away apparently unbothered by the interaction, saying to herself: 'Like I would forget 10 years of my life.' Schwimmer says, 'I hate this town'
