The annual Men Of The Year list has sparked outrage this year after Kim Kardsahian landed the cover of the edition – despite being female.
The 43-year-old reality star was one of three cover stars of the US edition ahead of Thursday night's awards, which honoured a selection of people who have shaped culture, fashion, entertainment and sport in 2023.
Kim was branded Tycoon Of The Year after launching Skims menswear, and posed in an androgynous suit and tie for the cover spread, taking to Instagram to share: 'Hi! I’m the GQ Man of the Year!'
She is not the first female to cover the annual edition, following on from Rihanna, Megan Thee Stallion, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston and Scarlett Johansson.
Yet taking to comments, fans were baffled by the news, posting: 'i just feel like this is taking away from the successful men yk'; 'And this ladies and gentlemen…
'Is why America is now laughed at around the world. Absolutely friggin embarrassing'; 'But like…you're not a man. Hahaha I am confused all the time'.
Making an exit: Olivia Rodrigro put her long legs on display as she strutted home
Off we go: Seth Rogen was suited and booted for the bash
Others added: 'I think this is super insensitive. Here we are as a society fighting for women’s rights still, not allowing transgenders in women’s sports, nor wanting transgender men to advertise women’s clothing and bras…
'But we go and put a woman, Kim K, on for MAN of the year? And somehow that’s okay? nah I don’t like the double standard;
'Help me understand why she is on the cover of a Men of the Year edition?'; 'Soooooo being a successful business person is a “male” trait?…
'Weird'; 'All of the dope men of color doing cool things in the world and y’all do this?'; 'Weird'; Adding to the disrespect of men is crazy.'; 'Like why'; '“Men of the year issue…”'
In 2018 Rose McGowan became first ever female recipient of a GQ Man Of The Year award, receiving the Inspiration honour for her work on the #MeToo movement.
As well as Kim, Jacob Elordi and rapper Travis Scott landed US covers this year.
